Panchatantra is a collection of Indian stories for kids and most of the stories have animals as main characters. Today I will be writing about a Panchatantra story I like. Its called “The Rabbit And The Lion”

The story of this book is that there is a cruel Lion who keeps eating the animals in the jungle for no reason. One day all the animals in the forest gathered around to plead with the lion to eat them one by one and the lion agreed. Once it was the clever rabbit’s turn. He went to the lion’s den late on purpose with his reason ready. Since the rabbit came late, the lion was furious! The Rabbit explained that on his way to the den, he met another lion who he luckily escaped from. The rabbit showed the lion that another lion jumped from the well. When the lion reached the well, he saw his reflection instead of another lion and then he roared and he got a roar back — which was the echo of his own roar. Then he jumped in the well to fight this lion and died.

Rabbit showing Lion his own reflection

The moral of this story is that the weaker can win if it has a smarter mind. In the story the rabbit was smaller, weaker but smarter than the lion. This also shows that if you have a plan you can overcome a difficult situation.
